This means the top two were from the Small Car segment, despite its 4.9 per cent decline. Toyota Hilux sells as many as Ranger and BT50 combined and yet when you start to travel and get amongst those towing vans and camper trailers there seems to be more Navarras, BT50's and Rangers than Hiluxes.
Are these figures including fleet sales? |

Ford needs to lower the price on the 4x2 ranger and make it more competitive in the cheap ute category, you see way more 4x2 hilux workmates then Ranger XL's.

Funny enough BT50 has been doing well in the 4x2 segment of late. So its interesting that it isn't selling as many.

There isn't really much good news for Ford, the rest of the Ford range isn't registering (excuse the pun) on the sales radar. |

Companies go work mate crazy. Without the mass 2wd sales I doubt they would be as high. Those workmates are damn near impossible to kill. |

"Given the fact that three of these contenders (Everest, Fortuner and Pajero Sport) all launched here within the past six months, its also a mini-segment thats growing fast.
With all that said, though, its the old faithful of the class, the Isuzu MU-X, that remains the winner thanks to very sharp pricing. It managed 508 sales in February (up 6 per cent) and has 1003 sales this year so far. This puts it ahead of the Pajero Sport, off to a strong start with 396 in February and accounting for 732 this year. On top of this, Mitsubishi has also sold 159 old Challengers, the Pajero Sports predecessor. Close behind is the Ford Everest with 377 sales in February and 664 for year year. Close behind is the supply-restricted Toyota Fortuner with 336/610. Rounding it out is the Holden Colorado 7 with 232/511. For context, the Toyota Prado managed a staggering 1295 sales in February, taking its yearly total to 2389. Softer options such as the Kluger (959) and Subaru Outback (869) also well and truly trounced this more rugged quintet last month, while in a higher price-segment, the BMW X5 did 451." Yeah the Thai ute based 4wd wagons don't seem to be resonating with the public which is weird seeing the thousands and thousands of dual cabs that leave the showrooms each month.
I don't think they are nailing the showroom appeal. They all look good on paper but feel a little small and cheap in reality. |

Everest beat the heavily discounted Colorado 7. Not bad for a vehicle most claim to be overpriced!

Due to less than expected sales. It is a good time to be buying an Everest though, you can pick up an Ambiente for high 40s on road which is close to $10,000 off list price.
Some are advertised 47,880 drive away which is an absolute bargain. Price was around 60k on road on release. Last edited by Brazen; 03-03-2016 at 08:49 PM. |

NX74205.."Right, so it beat the cheaper Fortuner, but lost to the more expensive Prado. Ergo, the Everest is not expensive enough .." OK so why isnt the Everest selling ???? If its cheaper then it should be selling close to Prado sales, but its way behind???? Why????

You can't convert Landcruiser owners over night.. They are funny people. Same goes with Hilux owners. Ford doesn't push Everest, Toyota has been advertising Prado on tv week after week with special AUTO pricing.

Everest will build a following over the next few years. Ranger is only just getting close to Hilux, that had taken 5 years. And now Ranger is the preferred option for people with that money to spend ( vs fleet), Everest will be doing a lot better in 2018 - 19 |

No, everything is not peachy, but a 32% increase in sales is a positive outcome, stop turning it into a negative. Quote:
Interesting revisionist history there. Ford aren't the first manufacturer to cease manufacturing in Australia. Renault, VW, Nissan, Chrysler and Mitsubishi are just some of the brands that used to build cars here, but don't anymore.

I also said at the time that due to Fords decision it would force the hand of the other two which it has done and a lot of that is due to an unsustainable parts suppy situation. Wether you like to admit it or not, Fords decision was the last nail in the coffin. |

If the product cycles' between Holden and Ford were slightly different, maybe it would have been Holden going 'first' and not Ford. Australia manufacturers' firstly needed volumes that would sustain 3 assembly plants with local volume (exports on top of that). We are too far away from where the other export opportunities are, and our cost base is too high for exports to Asia. If we had an economy supporting 100 million people then maybe things would have turned out differently ( in this global, free trade, world economy ). It doesn't cost much to bring a car in to Australia on a car carrier, it costs a lot to maintain an assembly and supplier base infrastructure and to retool every 7 years. Especially if competing plants in Asia are being heavily subsidised by Goverments, have cheap labour, and the Australian government allows the most competitive industry in the world to exists here. |

The Commodore on its current platform could continue well past 2017, so too could the Camry/Aurion, if it were about product cycles they would continue until both needed $$ spent but they havent, why. Could it be because the little guy cant survive with their numbers alone... |

It will be very interesting when Commodore goes.
Its currently the only large or medium sedan in the Top 10. even Camry is not there. Ford have an opportunity with Mondeo to grab some of this - but some aggressive marketing is required
