Ford Australia has recalled more than 3000 Falcon sedans and utes over a potential gas leak that could result in a fire.
The recall affects 3256 FGII EcoLPi vehicles built between 2011 and 2012 http://watoday.drive.com.au/motor-ne...318-34yuh.html |

Wow, dangerous but good that Ford has recognised and accepted the issue, taken on the responsibility and recalled the cars.
Good work.

And without a decent marketing/education program its no wonder the LiLPG was never going to work.

Petrol does not expand 270 :1 . I don't like the idea of driving around with pressurised gas cylinder in the car.
Main reason for buying an LPG car is savings on fuel cost. If cost of running a car on LPG was the same as petrol or diesel how many people would buy an LPG car? |

I agree with the fuel costs my eb uses over 20l per 100k's on lpg and 12.5l on petrol, it's actually slightly cheaper to run petrol so I'm currently just doing that atm I've taken the mixer out of the intake and got almost 1/4 of my power back I haven't checked but this would probably make my economy on petrol even better. I just don't think gas is worth it anymore. It was just over 40 cents 2 years ago and it's more than doubled in price since then. It's gone up a lot more than 12.5c that's for sure.

Yes the gas is compressed but if a gas tank is ruptured for whatever reason it wont pop like a balloon, escaping gas will ignite if there is direct flame but that is no different from petrol. in fact However Petrol Vapour is far more combustible than LPG, and Petrol Vapour does not burn, it explodes. one litre of petrol can make 15,000 litres of Vapour in comparison LPG is much harder to ignite hence why LPG cars need to have a good spark to operate efficiently. Quote:
The debate on whether LPG is efficient is irrelevant to this thread, but at the moment it still is better than Petrol or Diesel (for an existing conversion)

I love my ECOLPI but this will be the second recall of it in the first 18 months of ownership. Not very good....

What do you drive? Pedal car
Seriously LPG cars are just as safe as any other car with all the safety regulations controlling the installation set up, only LPG cars that is dangerous is when some DODO has done a dodgy installation & should not be on the roads. |

they are popular with fleet owners, we have quite a few in our fleet (as a matter of fact I have one this week)
Remember, over 80% of new cars sales are into fleets

I was going to say something about build quality before I even opened that link and yep turns out to be negligence and not a defect.
Don't blame lpg. Blame a company with sapped motivation thus poor build quality.

my mate used to work at a forklift servicing joint and they used to have to load their propane gas bottles onto the back of little trailers and cart them around, frequently they'd fall off and bounce all over the ground for a few seconds or sometimes get crushed by forklifts. He said they can't rupture not sure if this is true but.

Maybe the faulty part was made in the LPG/Orbital factory in W.A?
Still not good for Ford to have to go thru every car and check over.....At least its only the LPG models! |

Why is it not good for Ford to check the cars? After all they are responsible for the manufactured car they sold to you with warranty, even if the warranty has run out they still have an obligation to a product recall. |

I think it's the gas lock off O ring, which should be the gas tank manufacturing's problem, not hard to fix, should take about 15 minutes.
