I've actually seen a guy leading an animal from a vehicle. The clown was leading his horse while driving. He wasn't driving slow either, the horse was cantering along beside him.

I have seen a guy doing this before. I have to agree with dangerously opening the door as a fine-able offense. Not only for cyclists, but for regular cars as well. Driving down the main street of Charlestown in Newcastle/ Lake Mac(the people who know it will know the lanes are not very wide) I had a guy in a very large van swing his door open as fast as possible right in front of me then proceed to jump straight out partly into my lane. I had to hit the brakes pretty hard to avoid him and his door. He just gave me a causal wave for not running him down. |

We have an "interesting" police commissioner and other talking heads up here...just a week or so back they actually said that "The public has to lear it isn't socially acceptable to be friends with a bikie anymore". Not "outlaw bikie", just "bikie", slandering everyone who rides...and WTF, the public "must learn" what is "socially acceptable" and dictate who we can be friends with according to a government edict? As the old cliche goes, "The novel 1984 was not meant to be an instruction manual for government departments..." |

I'm a bit in favour of people being done for leaving their car unsecured. It'd be a pain in the backside for police to chase up thefts that were entirely preventable...

Ah yes - the good old Courier Mail. The editor must have it on a repeat appointment note in his phone diary because this story seems to get trotted out each and every year!

No..I posted it..because of the recent fines handed out by QPol, that are ridiculous...1km over, not by speed camera..fine for window down, without actual measuring the gap. To let fellow Qlanders be aware of what they can be done for...

For the Queenslander being fined for 1km (61 in a 60 zone) over it wasnt from a radar nor camera but a police car following judging by his speedometer. Since the revenueover the finer has been dismissed...

Although I didn't know the cost I knew about all these offenses maybe some people need to know the road rules before they drive.
the latest outcry by the loony left is the guy fined for leaving his window open . the reason this exists is the same idiot would claim insurance when his car is stolen and help drive our premiums up. you must secure your vehicle. the police involved said they were targeting the offense as there had been a high theft rate in the area , sounds reasonable to me

Perhaps a better solution would be for the police to leave a flyer under an unlocked car warning the owner of the dangers of leaving your car unsecured. The owner would be thankful for the heads up and probably a little shocked that someone was around their unsecured car without their knowledge.

by teaching the morons oops I mean misguided motorists, to take responsibility for the vehicle they are in charge of they are reducing the risk , but the loony left whinge about our civil liberties, draconian penalties and " obscure laws" ( only obscure because the driver has insufficient knowledge to be a licence holder) .
the same loony left morons would be the first to complain about police inaction of inadequate police numbers when they are a theft victim. police resources are further stretched because these people have little or no regard for the law and contribute to the crime rate by their attitude. many of you may not be aware but if the insurance company has proof your car was not secured they can and will deny a claim for theft. we would then hear the cries of the unfair treatment of poor victim ( AKA idiots) by insurance companies. It's simple really, to drive a motor vehicle you have an obligation to operate within the restraints of the law . as a licenced driver it is your responsibility to maintain and update your skills and knowledge . too many people get their licence and that's it. I do the RTA online test 2 to 3 times a year to check my knowledge, I undertake a reassessment by a heavy vehicle instructor once a year as part of my job and I constantly review and critique my own driving. as a result I feel I have up to date skills and knowledge maybe more drivers need to look at their knowledge of the road rules Quote:

Yeah just watched a segment on Today Tonight about the car window thing - adding to the obscure list is beeping your horn unnecessarily (like beeping to say goodbye) and flashing your headlights within 200m of another motorist.
On the flip side there's heaps of people that get away with alot of other things that are well known fines - such as driving with your fog lights on, I got warned for that at a booze bus, but I see tonnes of people doing that anyway.. guess its just the luck of the draw.

There was or possibly still is a law in QLD where it is legal to take a leak on the rear passenger tyre of your car in public .

A bit of pointless trivia... I read a great book recently written by astronaut Chris Hadfield. He said that Russian cosmonauts routinely urinate on the tyre of the transport bus on the way to the launch pad, in a time-honoured tradition after Yuri Gagarin took an unscheduled pitstop to do it in 1961.
