Default 10 second car, what do I need to race

My XT is knocking on the door of a 10 second pass.
What do I need to do to be able to race the car & keep ANDRA happy?

Are you thinking of racing Brad or just doing Wednesday nights ?
We can run as low as 10.5s before we need cage on a wednesday night but im not 100% sure about racing events

Im not sure 100% Wayne, just weighing up pro's & cons,
Some mates do the nostalgia meet & I believe that comes under ANDRA rules.
Id like to give that a run
Im going to take the old girl down again on the 21st.
Are you going to be able to give yours a run then?
It would be nice to meet up mate

Always the Gremlins hey,

Andrew is going to bring his 66 mustang down on the same night as well (the car with the 427 that Simon built)

It will be nice to see the Ford chrome bumpers amongst the sea of commodores

10.99 and lower is an Unlimited Licence. You will require a medical certificate.

usually you have to do a couple licensing test passes, they watch u do a burnout, 60ft, 1/2 track then a full track pass before they sign off on it.

Contact andra .

They have all the licence info and pricing .

Bout 370 for unlimited , you will run in Super Sedan .

You have to ask , adding the weight of cage , will that put you back on 11.0 ??

Brad once you cage it you either have to register it as a 2 seater and remove rears or unregister it
We cant run cages on the street here without big dramas

One of my carpenters at work had Scott from torque fabrications make up a bolt in cage. Its a pain in the bum to get in & out but it can be done.
Thats what I was thinking of doing

Think there only good for 10.00
Spose if ANDRAs cut off is 10.99 then could be worth it but if there cut off is 10.5 same as wednesday nights then is it worth all that hasle for .5 ?

In nsw you need padding, no side intrusion bars (or removable ones) but don't need to unregister or register as two seater, jeez you have it hard. So strange how state to state in same country laws can be so different. Lenient in some areas and stringent in others....shame really as the overwhelming majority of people really try to do the right thing in my experience.

As for cages Brad (sorry iPhone won't let me post a link) go to you tube. Type in XY GT 351 posted by Why Chuchie and have a good look at that cage, andra approved and can barely see it in car... With lightly tinted windows you'd have no hope of seeing it ...

The XT is untubbed, why is that?

I run a 275/50 M/T street radial at the moment

4.14.4 Single Rolover Hoop with removable support members

The following vehicles require a single rollover hoop covering the full width of the driver's compartment with two back stays , a side intrusion bar and taxi bar of bolted construction using Grade 8 or equivalent fasteners constructed to ANDRA requirements as a MINIMUM ! ( Utilities may use a FOUR point rol cage with intrusion bars / diagonals on both sides ) .

Unmodified cars ( ET 10.00 - 10.99 ) : with nmodified monocoque construction with fixed steel roof , slower than 10.00 ( 1/4 ) / 6.50 ( 1/8 ) but faster than 10.99 ( 1/4 ) / 7.00 ( 1/8 ) .

My understanding of that is , UNtubbed = unmodified , therefore a Bolt in 4 point cage with Bolt in Side instrusion bar which is always on drivers side ?

So a back half cage with bolt in drivers side intrusion bar is required for Unmodified chassis/tubs .....

Hope that helps , but if in doubt , contact your local Andra Tech inspector for more info .

This is from the 2013 Andra rule book .

4.14. Full 6 Point Roll Cage with Removable Support Members .

The Following vehicles require a full roll cage mounted at a minimum of 6 points with removable side intrusion bars . The intrusion bars must be the same diameter and thickness as specified in the material selection chart and must be attached using 3/8 inch ( 10mm ) Grade 8 bolts as a minimum .

UNMODIFIED CARS ( et 8.00 - 9.99 ) . Street registered cars with a fixed steel roof and Unmodified monocoque construction running between 8.00 and 9.99 ( 1/4 ) / 5.00 and 6.25 ( 1/8 ) or slower .

So STREET Registered cars with FIxed Steel roof and UNMODIFIED chassis or tubs , ONLY needs BOLT in 6 point CAGE with BOLT in removable side intrusion bars .

WOW SO basially you can keep your registered car with unmodified chassis / tubs , streetable with all seats available with some Hard Work of making a Bolt In 6 point cage !

Thats got to be appealling to alot of people ...

Thats cool .... DAMN cool

Haha
So it can be bolt together ?
I though it would have to be one piece ?
Would be good if you could do 2 piece and bolt the 2 together then wouldnt be as hard to fit

I went though it with Scott from torque fabrications mate.
He welds in plates with nuts on them on the floor/sill at the base of the B pillar, around your feet & on the parcel shelf. The B pillar hoop bolts to this, the side instrusion bar bolts to the B pillat hoop & the floor & the rear stays bolt from the B pillar hoop to the parcel shelf. The taxi bar bolts to the centre hoop. In my XT he says he welds in a permanent bar in the boot from the parcel shelf to the chassis rail. Hope that makes sense.
Its a ***** of a job to get it out but it can be done,
One of the boys at work have a similar set up in a HZ
