I can never understand ppl like this. You enter a competition to win it, now you won it, now you crying?

"Unwanted Prize".........C'MON wtf is that!:

Have to be a Holden driver, on LS1 forums! Didn't want to be caught driving a Ford I bet.

Shameful. If I ever won a Holden, I'd drive it.....Because it's free! Well it cost ya 2 bob, but what the hell.

What is up some people today.:

Maybe he already has a FG (or any car for that matter) and has no room for a second? Maybe he needs the $$$ (who doesn't!)

Maybe they were supporting a charity and don't need or want a V8. Selling it gives you a 35-40k prize.

Without knowing anything I fail to see how you feel you can come to a conclusion.

Not everyone goes into a raffle EXPECTING to win the prize...they just want to support the charity/cause. Easy to bad-mouth when you didn't win

If I won a car like that - despite liking the car, I'd still sell it. $40k off my mortgage is more important than a new car. My next car will again be 2nd hand for about $15k-$20k

Method to my madness is "Unwanted prize" wording.
I totally understand what you mean, but it's the reasoning of it (his wording).
I mean the $$$ is sometimes needed, but could have been promoted a bit better.

If said, "no room for it in Garage, unfortunately must sell" or "regretful sale of a prize", hey yeah.
But it's like it was a "dropped pie" or something.

I think the wording is fine? Proberly wants to sell it so he can upgrade to a GT-P! Grandma might have won it and likes her Corolla better? Who knows the reason. If I won something I didnt want ..... stright onto ebay with exact same words!

I would have to say I would sell it. I might drive it for a couple weeks maybe a month or so but ultimately I would sell it. I can't afford to scratch my **** most weeks and I could use 10g to buy a second hand BA and use the rest to clear debt and put towards a deposit on a house for my family. Or as income supplement. The mrs is going to leave work soon to have our second child and C-0Link believe my $600pw is enough to support the lot of us, my rent alone is more than 1/3rd that.

I was under the impression that when you won something like a car you had to sign a contract to say you will keep it for at least 12months??

Winnings may be tax free but, If you sell it on within 12months of taking receipt you may be slugged capital gains tax on the sale price. Can anyone confirm?

Capital gains can apply to many things including collectables, boats, cars etc. I guess when you sell a car privately it is harder to trace in terms of the ATO, so your accountant might be advising that it isn't necessary, however it does apply. see ato.gov.au
