I've never really understood why it was in Canberra to begin with. Wouldn't it be better if there were a drag strip at least near where it was held?

Nats used to finish on the Monday. When we had the drag strip here, a lot of the entrants would head out to the Airport Drag Strip for Monday. |

Sorry to our Northern brothers and sisters, but I think that Calder would be the best spot for Summernats. The Thunder dome infield could be used for relatively secure camping and the national track would make an awesome cruise track. Apparently they've separated the drag strip from the main straight, so you could have drags and cruising on separate surfaces. Oh and although I like my grog, make it dry, I want to show my 13yo daughter my passion without having to worry about verbal abuse from some idiots... It's just a Dad's wish... I know... :lookedat:
Cheers, Kraig

I think Eastern Creek would be the best place to hold the SummerNats, great drag strip to see what peoples cars can do down the 1/4 & good grand stands as well as a Burnout pad, they could hold the car show on the bituman area instead of on the grass & dirt!

Its too much about how much profit they will make from Alcohol rather than what spectators want....... Also one of their videos they released about 2 or 3 years ago had more about the camera crew than Summernats, i put in a written complaint and I got back the camera crew does good work so we rewarded them with them on the video - IDIOTS - customers want to see Summernats not the Camera Crew Also Paid for a Gold Pass which gave me reserved parking in security parking close to the Exhibition Park and when i went to park there they said I couldn't as they had to leave the spots for the Volunteers - pfffffffft Quote:

i dropped in after work on saturday and was disgusted on crowd behavior, none of the big name race teams were there this year besides jack daniels whom is a major sponsor.
Honestly a never seen a bunch of drunken bogans any where this bad,it was more like a tatoo and body pierceing show than a car show,by late saturday afternoon majourity of the crowd were pretty drunk and were more intersted harassing girls than looking at the cars. The pavillions were filled of crap e.g mobile phone stores ,car model stores selling 30% more than retail, people trying to flog off old worn out car parts and worst of all the best presented store was PROCOMP LOL. Its held in canberra because there is nothing else to do there, its just a reason for all the booz heads to walk around with no shirts on and to see who can be the biggest effwit It only makes it worse when some local scrubber in well need of attention feels the need to pull out her breasts that look worse than cow utters to get these losers exited. Quite a few nice GT,s there but no one was interested ,shame

it was chosen probably for the same reason canberra was chosen as the location for the nations capital its neither sydney or melbourne its located in between.

The original concept of summernats was fantastic.. but in recent years its gone off the rails.. the event is now more about getting drunk and mucking up than about the cars themselves....
Some awesome cars in the pics too, but some have had too much "ricer" influence for my liking.... 20+" wheels on classic cars is just plain wrong!!!

Bogans and Beer Go Hand in Hand, you cant have one without the other to be true SummerNats. Going off the pictures posted in the other thread there truely is some awesome machines there, but lots of rubbish (I LOVE THE RAT ROD). I doubt though it will come to sydney, because Clover Moore will have a hissy fit about it and put on alcohol restrictions, make it double demertis etc.... then no one will wanna come.

Stopped going a few years back after going 10 in a row. The bogans just became the majority and the fun factor went away.
I don't particularly think it would matter if the venue changed, whether it moved to Sydney, Melbourne or Brisbane... if they're able to restore it to its former glory, I'd travel the distance to attend. |

One of the traders today mentioned that there was approx 200 entrants who did not show up who had prepaid. Be interesting to see if it is true, and the final figures in comparison with previous years.
Saw an interview with Chic Henry on the telly today(was pre recorded week prior to Summernats), and he indicated that 2 separate groups were interested in buying the "business" that is summernats. One was an individual, the other is a consortium. One group wants to keep it in canberra, the other wants to take it interstate. |

this year the 1st i missed in 8yrs and i got a bit tired of the drunks and general crap that went on.... some of us genuinly go for the cars, other get off seein a pair of tits.
hate the fact that water cost the same as a beer, then they say drink driving was up.... id hate to think what the price of those were this year... the inflation of the joint is a joke.... from what im hearing im glad i didnt go.... maybe they need to can the grog??? they did a half A55ED effort few year back with no grog being brought in... maybe needs to become grog free and see what happens? i know wont stop all the knobs but might be a good start....... IMO anyway

Chic Henry is actually from Sydney, Summernats isn't in Canberra because he was a local - more to do with the venue/locality I think.
The ACT papers have been doing their usual Summernats bashing, but it's been more than usual after Chic asked to have the rent lowered on EPIC (it's $200K+, with addional costs to cleanup, fix grass/roads, etc...) due to the economic conditions. It's also been reported he's spoken to WSID, or WSID spoke to him, about a potential move there. WSID did say if it went there, it would be alcohol free and the hoon mentality wiped out - more of a Supernats style event that Ahmet runs, but more than 1 day.

This happens to alot of big car shows, just look at the spring nats. 4vman hit the nail on the head, 20" wheels on a classic look craaaaaaaaaaaap not cool. Go buy a hot wheels car if you want that look :
