Well done Skaife, probably a pre-mature end to your career due to "issues" outside of your control, but a brilliant career none the less.

While the basic Ford Six was code named Barra, the Turbo version clearly deserved its very own moniker – again enter Gordon Barfield.
We asked him if the engine had actually been called “Seagull” and how that came about.
“Actually it was just call “Gull”, because I named it that. Because we knew it was going to poo on everything”.

What a brilliant race to the end today. We will never know what could have been due to the shocker second race but that's racing.

His loyalty to Gibson was commendable. When he was switched on he was hard to beat. He has a better sense of humour than he is given credit for. He gave us someone to hate (like Moff gave Holden drivers someone to hate in the 70's). His character has added to the sport. He also has reasonable posture.

Good luck, Skaife. Do me a favour and punch Tander in the face before you leave. He needs to be taken down a peg.

I first spoke to Mark at Oran Park in 1988 (I think) down in the Scrutineering Shed /Office, he had just been "given some advice" from Frank Gardner...either that or it was another of Frank's jokes...

I said I was a Ford fan but I wished him well in the 'Datto...he laughed and he thanked me for my support.

He may be many things, but he will be remembered as a true ambassador for Australian Motorsport just like (but not to the same extent...maybe...) as Brock and Johnson, Perkins, Lowndes, Richards, Gardner, Seton(s), Jones', Bowe and the list could go on for pages.

He put his money where his mouth is and he had a red hot go. That gives him a great deal of my respect and I'm sure many others as well.

Congrats Skaife. You were highly respected and still are. You are still one of the better drivers in the field. Now where is Ford to pick you up for next season?

Hahahahaha, classic.
Didn't Morris just do this to Whincup today and why didn't he get a drive thru???

Yes, someone here had their avatar with a photo of Skaifey in that shot, with a Ford flag, .

Hilarious.

I can't help but think he'll pop up at another team.
There's no doubt he's got another 5 or so years left in him if all he had to do was just drive.
The problems and politics have forced his hand early...

Listening to the broadcast earlier, I thought he sounded quite relieved to be at the end, allowing him more time with family and other things.

You've got to be bloody fit to be a decent driver, and I think he wants to be around more, rather than committing some much time.

I think he's retired from V8SCs for good. He may pursue something else though.

I wouldn't be surprised to see him pop up as a commentator. Does a pretty good job when guest commentating normally.

He lost his ride and his team ownership so I'm guessing he won't be competing again (although I won't be surprised if he pops up as a driver for the long distance races) so commentating would be the next logical step if he is going to stay associated with the V8s.

I'm not a fan but I hope he sorts all of his recent financial troubles so he can look after his family.

Well you see ALOT of drivers now are moving onto other categories and then popping up for the enduros and you'd have to say he'll be back for enduro's.

And I agree with people above hopefully his financial troubles are over now his out of the team ownership thing and he can enjoy some quality time.

I'd say he's done the least for V8's in the last 5 years and complained the most when Ambrose started a Ford winning spree up to today. Good bye and don't let the car door hit your **** on the way out!

V8SC just got a little better... :
