Well the miss's and I didn’t have much on so we thought lets go Drive. Ended up out at Bathurst, did all the tourist things as we had never been out there before. Could not resit a few laps around the track!!!
I now have a much better understanding of how hard it actually is to drive around that place at high speed....let alone doing 160 odd laps with many cars trying to get ya! Even the miss's thought the same(hates motor sport), she said she might even watch it now next year! On the TV they make it look easy and no where near as steep! There’s a few scary looking marks on the walls around! Anyways if you haven’t been out there before. Do go! Makes a good day out! Heres just a few pic's! |

Yep,unless you've driven it you have no conception of what its like eh. Awesome place awesome track. It's the reason I go every year to the mountain. Shame you couldn't black out all those aweful signs.

Haha i thought about that but it was the only safe place to off load the miss's to grab a few shots, it was actually a bit busy out there! Everyone was doing the same thing off loading the miss's taking happy shots Yeah well i now have permission to go up there next year, so im there Would be good to do a cruise up there as well next time theres one! The road is all public with 60kph speed limit, signs up said there was speed cameras in use but we didnt see any! didnt need to though kept looking around the 1st lap! There was a few people camping up the top the hill too! |

There are people living all the way round it, well not so much on Conrod. There is a winery half way up on the left. Have alook at this: Track Info

I did it in the old EA 12 years ago, the track is scary at the speed limit of 60 km/h. Heading across Skyline, the sky is all you can see, only many years of watching the race gave me any clue where the road went. A truly great piece of road.

Some of us in the Territory forum often get together for drives, and in May this year we headed up to Mudgee, on the way home some of us dropped into Bathurst and did a run around the Mountain, it was great fun.
I wont mention we had one of the first Turbo’s with us and someone driving it thought the speed sign said 160km and roared down the mountain, sounded like a train coming down the Mountain at speed. The next Territory cruise to is to Mount Kosciuszko, Australia Day weekend 2008 and we will be staying in a caravan park at Jindabyne. Anyone interested, we don’t bit, have a http://66.226.77.74/showthread.php?t=111437]look at this thread[/URL] |

It's a very exciting circuit, use this link to take a driver's view of each corner. Just click on any corner and a photo pops up. http://www.nzmustang.com/Bathurst/circuit.htm

Did the run up to Bathurst on boxing day, just for the hell of it.
Surprisingly there weren't any cops on that day. |

There arent any fixed cameras but the police regularly patrol and regularly catch morons speeding up there. Only last month they got a p plater driving like fangio, doing some ridiculous speed down conrod.

I did a few laps at the mountain recently - about 65, or 430 klms over 2 days
Here are a few shots of the TE50 from the event Was lapping around 2.44 when I didn't get held up after catching other cars. 240kph into the Chase and 200 kph at the top of Mountain Straight. Also did 2 laps with Jim Richards in the Porsche GT2. 280 kph into the Chase and 260 at the top of Mountain Straight. Awesome, but my car felt faster, as the Porsche did it so easy!

I went to Bathurst for 3 days just so I could drive around the track for 3 days straight......
Did about 200+ laps, I just could not get sick of driving that piece of road.

Yeah it's a good track ... some people foget it's a two-way road as well.
I ahve come back up the mountain the "other" ... and nearly got taken out by a Commodore with green Ps ... trying to "live the dream". He lost control and nearly put it into the wall trying to avoid me ... got stuck in a sandtrap though. Cops love to sit at the top of the mountain on the side ... as you come over the top crest they ping a lot of people as they get into it over the top of the mountain.

Went around the track in 2006(can't say last year anymore). A pity the limit is 60 so with the human handbrake in the car, I did a lap in 2nd(it sounded better...haha). Then I dropped her off at the end of Conrad to take some photos and I accidently floored my right foot.....great fun.....can't wait to go again!

Was there in 2002 for the Big Race. The thing that really surprised me was the hump going up Mountain Straight, how savage it is at 60ks, these guys are going at it over 150ks!

Looks a bit greener than usual which is good for the Central Tablelands.
