As seen on Today tonight
Ford and Oldens seems to be equal last place in the poo pile, when comparing against the likes of Mazda etc. 51% of fords and 47% Oldens have faults reguardless of severity in the first 5 months. Where all put down hard earn cash and where getting crap from our best. I not saying dont but aussie grade metal but come on it has to get better. PS a secret report based on customers feedback was leaked about the car industry today. And someones crankie about it |

I admit that ford (and holden) are far behind other manufacturers in terms of quality. That still doesn't stop me from buying them though. Ford/Holden are still the best value for money when it comes to performance - especially in the used market.

Today Tonight and A Current Affair have been poo for a long time but when they start to kick the local car industry during a "oil crisis" its time to draw the line.
God i hate those shows.

When our local stuff is competing against the worlds best manufacturers, who export all over the world, what can we expect.
When we can compete on the open market and not just local we might get a better product. At least Holden is exporting to United Arab Emerist and the US, but limited models. But for the money both aren't really that bad, sure there's going to be the odd lemon and until they build a car to a standard and not a price we'll keep getting what we have now. It's all profit driven. At least some of the Asian makers and America have their workers rewarded with shares in the company which gives them an incentive to build it properly with a bit of pride.

The report (compiled by AC Neilson??) was based on ALL complaints, minor and major faults within the first 5 months of ownership, and allegedly was requested by the manufacturers, hopefully to get some better quality builds.
As soon as i saw the story i knew it would get chopped up into "51% of Falcons are ****, and go back to the dealer" etc. Full story here

This is the same Drive-com.au story that's already started a couple of threads on this forum. Somebody should now 'leak' the Wheels WASP tests to them.

They did give a source - AC Nielsen research company (interestingly I have participated in that survey and wondered about the results).
The figures were not present other than percentages, and no indication was given to the severity of the faults - just that 51% of Falcons have faults in the first 5 months of ownership. I do consider the significant trim, and fit/finish faults of my Territory as a negative on Ford - but I would much prefer to be owning a vehicle where pieces of the trim keep breaking repeatedly, than owning one of those Brand T vehicles which are inherently flawed in handling and character. They are the motoring equivalent of a lobotmy, combined with the dynamic prowess of a hippo - but they sell well and are reliable. And for some that's all they seek in a car, annonimity and punctuality... Austalians laugh at the Japanese who bought Australian sheep sold as $500 poodles. Japanese laugh at the Australians who buy Toyotas and think they are buying cars! SL |
