Avgas is just ordinary boring petrol that is manufactured to tighter tolerences, tested daily and has lead because the engines that use it (lycomings & continentals) are designed to use leaded petrol.

Despite the screaming from the democrats (remember them) and the greenies avgas has remained leaded for safety (it is difficult to pull up on a cloud if you have engine problems) and insurance reasons.

Put 100LL avgas in your BA/BF (n.b. illegal in OZ ok in NZ I think) with the catalytic converter(s) removed and the ECU informed accordingly and it will go like a cut cat......

Don't disagree but remember this.....avgas is guaranteed to be between 110and 130ron with lead.

Mind you unless you get pulled by the epa you can gut your cats and run avgas.

I thought I read something last year in Motor, where they took a Holden or 3 out through a community where this fuel was the only kind available and they said the cars didn't handle it so well, and it was more expensive.

It was awhile ago now, so the memory is a bit foggy.

Close Feathers.

The used regular avgas in the Commodores and throught the lack of ECU tuning etc they did run poorly.

The new fuel that is in question isn't what Motor used.

It costs a bomb to produce, and is heavily subsidised by the Govt. in the areas where it is being distributed....

dont worry you ban them from the petrol and they just move on to the paint, glue, thinners, paint stripper (damn) and textas. they are shocking over here where i live, once i saw a family of them walking down the street with there heads buried in paper bags, even the kids! (and no they weren't eating hot chips lol) its quite sad if you ask me .
