Just a thread of what cars you have driven and what was the most fun.
Hyndai excel. (never going to touch one of them again) Eb falcon (parents owned it then I bought it off them) Vt commodore (parents car) Vl calias turbo (first taste of boost and I loved it) merc c180 (slow piece of shit that was all show no go) Vy II commodore (Parents car) Ba xr6 (my first new car) LS1 Statesman. (First drive in a v8) I can honestly say that the calias turbo was good fun along with the statesman. Im trying to convince the bro in law to get the ls1 edit done to the stato but he has to convince my sister first. Next car has to be a turbo or a v8. I love the sound of an 8 but I love the sound of a turbo spooling up as well. |

I've driven hundreds (goes with managing a fleet at work for a few years, and a favorite pass time when younger was checking out the local car yards). I've also owned over thirty, but the two different ones were:
VL Brock Director (one of 9, polariser equiped) Sierra Saphire Cosworth (woohoo!) but my all time favorite is my 67 mustang.

I dont have a very big list..
XB Fairmont EBII Falcon ED Falcon AU Falcon '68 Kingswood (technically right? :P) XJ6 II Jag 85 Mazda 323 87 Ford Telstar(?) Hyundai Accent Toyota Corolla, '78, '95 and 2000 81 Sigma 87 Camry 80-something Swift BA XR6 NA BMW 318 VT Commodore I think thats close to accurate...enough. Anyway, the easiest and most pleasant to drive was the XR6..... However, for confused/surprised looks on peoples faces the award goes to the XJ6 II - you actually start to feel richer and cultured after driving it for 5mins.. wow..

94 Toyota Camry (Parents car when I got my licence, POS which was abused by my parents)
99 AU XR6 HP (My 1st car. Was great, but mediocre interior quality. Sold it last year.) Audi A4 2L (Dad's boss' car which was a slow, unresponsive POS. Was sold quite soon) Lexus IS200 (Dad's boss' 2nd car, was OK but underpowered) Mercedes C200K (Dad's current ride. Great car, well built. Engine sounds like a diesel, but pulls hard) Honda Accord Euro (My current ride. Impeccable quality and refinement. Six cyl smoothness from a four. Couldn't be happier.) Holden Commodore VZ Exec wagon (Work car. Alloytec not as bad as I thought but Falcon still beats it hands down) |

EA II Falcon GLI (MPEFI)
TF Magna Executive (V6) VT Commodore Berlina Sedan CD? Holden Astra 1.8L (2001 model) XF Fairmont Wagons (Dual Fuel) ?? Proton Satria (2000 model) VN Commodore Executive Sedan (91 model) The Fairmont wagon had no power, which is bad considering that it was a 250cu plant, I think the tuning was well and truly off. The VN commodore was also a dog, not gutless but just an awful drive. Satria was also gutless (1.5L ? Auto), but wasn't all bad. The Astra was actually a nice car, very smooth but it had a 'reversed' steering coloum The berlina was very smooth, but felt a lot heavier than my EL and the steering was too dead for my liking. Most fun I had outside my own car was the Magna (please don't hit me) it actually pulls pretty hard from 20km/h and it revs well, pity it FWD.

Impossible to remember them all let alone try to make a list. Everything from RR to Mini.
The most memorable would have to be the Ferrari Dino just because it was a Ferrari but it wasn't a car I could live with on a daily basis, just too damn hard to drive smoothly. You had to drive it 90% or above all the time. Some other good drives were Fiat 125 coupe and BMW 2002. These were not spectacular cars but were a very enjoyable drive in every way. Absolute fun machines on tight or windy roads. The worst memory I have is of a Torana GTR XUI, the most absolutely shocking ride and handling, but went like stink as long as you were driving on a billiard table in a straight line. As for the Fords:- well from owning something like 20 or more different models during the past 35 years ... the best was my XE S-pack, only an EFI 4.1 but after fitting it with a T5 gearbox, LSD and Bilsteins all round it was probably the car which I spent the least on to get it to drive how I wanted it to. Until my present car, the TE50 which only needs a decent gearbox to make it virtually perfect for my driving needs. |
