G'day all...I'm lucky I don't have too many issues with family commitments so about a decade ago I put on AUSTAR..now FOXTEL..On the basic package it has Discovery Turbo Max Channel 634 /635..that is 24 hours x 7 days a week Car Shows...Over the years I've found some of them are actually informative and entertaining..others less so..For those of us who watch these shows I'd like to ask ."What are your favourite/s.. Mine is a British show called Wheeler Dealers..the mechanic ,Edd China..genuinely seems like he is the real deal..Mike Brewer , the host ..he's okay..even if he bagged initially the AU Falcon on the special Aussie Trading Up series..Perish that thought..what a plonker in that regard...
Some other good shows are Chasing Classic Cars , Fast N' Loud (bit quirky but has some great US Fords on it often )..Fifth Gear (Tiff Needham is a legend) A Car Is Reborn , Fantom Works ,West Coast Customs...and a few others that can be good at times..Car auction shows like Mecum Auto Auctions and What's My Car Worth..for me are two of those..Interested if AFF members enjoy or hate any of these..Cheers Rod.. |

I agree there are some good shows, kindigit customs is worth a look as well, although with most of these shows I wonder how much it all costs and who pays? Also, particularly with fast and loud, the prices they pay makes me groan, who could buy that here in Aust? It seems way too cheap.

Fantom Works, Wheeler Dealers and Kindig Kutoms are good as it gives people some idea how its done and why its so expensive to build or restore cars. Same with Overhaulin though the only complaint is it focus's on the prank stuff too much. American Hot Rod wasn't bad either.
Most scripted reality shows Fast and Loud (and Misfit Garage) cop it on social media because for the most part, the acquiring of some of the cars and their sale are often dramatised or flat out faked. Some of the build quality has been questioned too. It is good entertainment though. |

Extreme Car Hoarders.
It's interesting to see what people collect and how much they have. If i had lots of room to store cars I'd be tempted to buy few. |

I love watching wheeler dealers, probably my favourite show on. Mike an ed watching them two is pretty good. Only criticism is when they fix there cars up and there on a test drive before selling, you can barely hear what the engine sounds like Lol, they go oh just listen to that v8 and you can barely hear anything on the TV with sound up. Other than that fast an loud with Richard is mad and extreme car hoarders is also a worthy watching car show that is pretty cool.

Yeah, it's looks like a lot of us think alike. My two favourites are Wheeler Dealers & Chasing Classic Cars.
One thing though, that Edd China sounds like a very talented guy. Maybe too talented to be real. Not only is a very good all-round mechanic, he appears to have no dramas with wiring & electrics of all types, no matter how complicated. He can also repair panel work, do full resprays, repair trim, fit glass & sunroof, as well as weld all types of metals. Along with all of that, he is a co-producer of the show !! Dr Terry |

Huge fan of Wheeler Dealers with Mike & Edd. Much better than the usual Over scriped & over acted American Car building crap. Also like Americarna with Ray Evernham & Jay Leno's Garage.
One to keep an eye on is The Car Show on SBS with Quentin Willson & Jodie Kidd.

When I had Foxtel years ago, Overhaulin was the only one.
I reconnected last year (due to the V8SC - another topic), and I was so pleased to see a few more 'car shows'. Wheeler Dealers is one of my favourites as it gets down to the nitty gritty of 'fixing' cars and Ed appears to be very well versed on many makes and models. I also like Kindigit Customs, as the produce some very cool cars - with a bit of humour along the way. They are all good and I try to watch all of them.

Does anyone remember that episode when ed had to fix that car mike bought that was 3 wheels and had a cockpit lid like an aeroplane lol I'm not too sure which one it is. Anyway seeing ed get mad and swear for cracking the replacement glass was something different I've never seen before haha. He goes I just f acked it and I was laughing because I've never seen him crack it. Obviously I felt bad but seeing ed crack it was different. I wonder what mike would be like being angry.

I always expected that they would have expertise on hand for advise and also to do advanced work. Impossible for a general mechanic to have all the specialised knowledge for the makes of cars they fix up. Still a great show. Prefer street outlaws as my favourite. If you want behind the scenes on how reality TV works then listen to the Chief and Shawn show (posdcast), especially the early episodes. Give some insight into how reality TV manufactures drama http://midweststreetcarsauto.podbean.com

G'day all..Thanks for the input...Common thread generally across the board..The only show that hasn't rated a big mention is Fifth Gear..I'm a huge fan of Tiff Needham especially because with his test drives he REALLY gives the weapon the works...Helps because he's a genuine motor racing legend and really does know how to drive a car hard..I actually prefer this show to Top Gear although that's pretty fun...The Aussie episode of Wheeler Dealers Trading Up..well.......To those who haven't seen it what do you make of this blasphemy..then he warms a bit to the AU wagon..who wouldn't ? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zBYG-xgOQj0 Cheers Rod

I still find it funny but how he fuxked over those back packers man over 3000 for an au wagon with high km not worth more than probably 1000 bucks Lol, feel so bad, kind of reminds me of my self getting stuffed over for my car, 2-3 grand paid extra that I shouldn't have lol. Damn dealers these days.

Not sure about Foxtel as i do not have it but i do like "Car Chasers" recently on 7Mate (I think) Spend their time buying mainly classic cars doing them up and flippin them, They seem very genuine nice folks and have a few laughs along the way.

I tape Wheeler Dealers and fast forward 10 minutes until the car is at the workshop.
Edd China is very good to camera and I love how the camera gets in close up and show you what he is doing. Who cares if he changes the suspension on one part of the car and other mechanics complete the work? I guess they also have detailers to polish the cars. At the end the mechanics are names are listed. I also like Car Chases because they all seem natural although the mechanic needs his hair washed. I miss the other mechanic. I hate most of the other shows where they put in deadline pressures but somehow always seem to make it. Apparently there is a bonanza of car shows in May. |
