Well she's not helping with all her new taxes, green schemes and endless prices hikes. Not to mention her alliance with the Greens who would love nothing more then shut all Car manufacturing down in Australia and around the world. Yesterday a Shell Refinery moved offshore and shut it's doors.

Ummm the demand for large cars hasnt dropped Bob, you just can't anything over the line that people actually want..
Holden still sell plenty of Commodores, and Commodore utes! You cannot put it all down to a dieing segment, you need to take some responsibility and start to get some **** happening with Falcon!! e.g. Gas, 4 cylinder and XR8. No point talking about it. |

The segment won't disappear but Ford and Holden need to realise the change in market and move away from this being their bread and butter. Holden have done this with the local production of the Cruze. You only need to look at March sales figures for Ford, sales were up for the cars in their other segments. Yes the LPG and I4T are missing, they may add some sales but no where near as many to justify Ford being a Falcon only company. They are good technologies but should have been here a long time ago. Too little too late and now they're paying for the incompetence shown. That's business. The Falcon may be a good product but is it really what everyone wants/needs?

While the above were not MASSIVE sellers.. every sale helped considering the piddling amount of sales now.. Commodore is reaping the rewards of a decade of good advertising.. being bold and daring with models.. MONARO/ SPORTS WAGON.. Commodore killing the falcon each month in sales and has done so for 15 years.. Want the VN nearly killed off? or a possibility from VL onwards to be killed off? How far is the FG from that? Feel sorry for the workers losing their jobs.. Feel it's fords doing rather than the Market sales.. Would this be happening if falcon pulled 3000+ sales per month just like the commodore?! |

I try to stay postive, but how much more can they cut, before they say "lets just quit??"

The segment is still there, otherwise BMW and Merc are spending some big bucks on a black hole....
I agree DASH, Ford have been to slow to react to what the market wants. All there products are great, well engineered etc but come too late. Its one thing to be fashionably late, its another to be an annoying gate crasher. What will be interesting, and I hold hope for it, is when LPG and the new tezza are back online and selling will these people be needed back?

Uncool, but not surprising. Something had to give sooner or later with the levels of manufacturing throughput. Hey, look on the bright side, at least they didn't say "well, this is no good, we're closing"

It is a big shame, but everyone here should of known this was coming. Falcon not selling so jobs go. Pretty simple.
Like was stated before, they really need to pick up on development times, so many great products just released way to late.

Its the morons who get paid big bucks that come flying in, think they are going to change the world, undo all of the previous work to only end up where the original direction was going anyway, wasting time and money. That is the problem.

It does say voluntary redundancies - so those what want out are being paid out as a result. That's my understanding anyway. Could be some pretty hefty payout figures if they've been there for extended periods of time...

Unless its unused steel stock left over from the BF days that can no longer be used...but its strange...and a bit alarming...but it could just truly be unused stock that will never be used and should be sold off anyway.

Might be the time to get into a falcon before they go the way of the dodo.

Oh and dropping the wagon as DASH mentioned was really stupid..even if they kept the sheet metal it still sold. I see countless numbers of Telstra wagons about, headlights ablaze and its bum dragging on the ground.
If Fords wagon was one of the toughest, it will be interesting to see how the others handle the work load. I would imagine a LPI ZF wagon would have been rather popular.

They should have just kept the BFIII wagon and put the zf in it / new LPG.. Would have cost them bugger all and would have kept them with 400 cars a month. If they were really cluey they would have put reverse park assist on them, 16 inch alloys and a colour screen with rear camera / cheap gps option. |
