well, i think we all know what this thread is about. if you don't, read the thread titled "this, the worst day of my life".
for all those who do know, i am now without a car and will be looking at a replacement in around 4 weeks or so. depending on whether or not i choose to go down the finance route again, or save, or whatever. so. ideas people, thats what im after. ANY options, ANY ideas, old school, new school, 6, 8, turbo, 4banger, GM(if you feel like a slap ), whatever you think i should park my bum in, ill consider it. i think a realistic budget would be around the 6-7 grand mark. mods?? skys the limit. thanks in advance guys.

i WANT a V8 manual, but, that doesnt mean something else won't sway me. for instance, a clean EB II manual XR6 would win me over, but then again so would a nissan silvia sr20manual turbo. see, i don't even know myself. i really just want peoples opinions and ideas so that i can form more of my own!

yeah ill say this ONCE. unless i can realistically afford it, and its within what i am after, then i don't want to know(P5 LTD auslandau? how much?). send me a PM if you think i will enjoy it though. i have toyed with the idea of an EF or EL XR8 manual. auto is not an option. thats pretty much it though. ideas.

oh, that, no not fast enough for me
i dont think the budget will stretch to an AU, and besides, i promised myself i would only ever get an AU if it had a 5.6 in it. and a manual. something tells me that 7K wont stretch me that far possibly an E series then turbo would be a good idea? buy car for 3.5k then start the saving?

Yeah I'd agree with you about an EL XR. They are great cars, still look good and reliable enough. Better chance of getting a manual too. Why not a 6 and turbo or supercharge it? That way if your cruising it will be fairly cheap to run and when you floor it it will go like stink.

Kick it in an E series XR.
A nice jet black EB XR8 manual would do the trick. Just a matter of finding one............

For $6-7k I'd be going a SR20DET Silvia or 180SX.
Keeping it Ford though you'd probably have luck down at the auctions on some higher kays BA's.

some great ideas guys, the soarer is a good one and not something i had even considered, so thats on my radar too now. a sprint would be nice but i'd probably be a bit worried to drive it for the first few months, if anything happened, i'd be screwed. an EF XR8 manual is what im leaning towards at the mo' but if a very clean GLi or XR6 came along, i'd consider as the turbo route would be fantastic. late nights working on it at home would be great. an AU is realistically too far out of price range and while saving for a BA GT is a nice idea, i really want to get my bum in the seat of something tasty fairly soon, as i often require a fairly well maintained car day-to-day(hence why bashing around in a 500 POS isnt too easy to do ) im almost %100 settled on a V8 now, or at least 6T as a future mod to a 6. manual almost definetly, i havent had a manual RWD car in toooo long it needs to happen for me. prydey, sell me your car.

let me just give you this advice. if you do look at 'e' series v8's, and you want some decent performance from it, bear in mind the top end (heads, intake, exhaust) is all rubbish. at a minimum you want to upgrade to AU stuff and even then the heads could do with a bit more work, esp the non 220kw ones. the cam is also pretty ordinary. the other thing is, once you start fiddling with those areas, the fuel system needs upgrading (ideally although you can stretch the standard injectors a reasonable way), and depending on the cam, the computer will need at the least a capa eliminator chip or do what i've done and run aftermarket computer. it all depends what you want. if you want it to be at least on par with your ba xr6, mods will be required. its always cheaper to buy a car with mods already done but if you can't garauntee the work, then there is the risk of buyng something where shortcuts or substandard work has been done. good luck with the search. if you do go down the jap turbo road, boostworx (shaun) is your man for all your tuning/modding needs. |

There is a nice cima on carsales for 5k. They are pretty rare but very nice and they share the same motor (vg30) with 300zx's. Pretty sure they have a bigger engine bay though haha. Link.
Another option is Lexus LS400's/ Toyota Celsiors, they have the legendary 1UZ, look amazing when done up tastefully and more features than you need. Quote:

Was the car that got burned still on finance/money owing? If you're in a bad financial situation then maybe consider something modest below $5,000, maybe an EL of some variety... Cars are such a terrible investment I can't see the sense in owning a flashy fuel inefficient racing car, but that's just me lol
