Truly awesome

The combustion looks different to what i have always imagined. In the way its more like a flame than an explosion (if ya's get what i mean)...

It looks like it cuts and chops, missing bits.

Nevertheless, still incredibly awesome! Amazing what they can get cameras to film these days!

Very cool indeed!

I too imagined the combustion phase to be a bright, intense white glow (like in the movies or games) - When I was 12 I wished someone would make a glass engine (I was twelve, gimme a break) so I could see exactly what was going on inside, even though I knew - If that makes sense.

I believe it is chopped and repeated because of the firing order, wouldn't a particular cylinder have some downtime whilst the others are doing their thing? - It is afterall a very, very slow motion camera!

It doesnt matter what the firing order is, as soon as the 4th phase (blow/exhaust) is complete the next stroke will be the 1st phase (suck/induction) of the following cycle.

Where the 4 stages are- intake, compression, explosion, exhaust
(aka. suck, squeeze, bang, blow)

Theres no 'down time', if thats wat you mean ?

EDIT- or did u just mean they've chopped out the exhaust stroke ??

Display motors can be made out of transparent sapphire, which will take the combustion no worries.

Seeing as diesels use compression as the ignition, keeping that little camera in would be fun.

That really is cool.
Its good insight to see in there when they are working, after so many years of seeing that stuff when its not running.

Don't laugh but I have seen close to what you say.
When I did training at Bosch a few years back they had a Brigs and Stratton lawnmower engine that had a perspex head on it. They run the valves in the block so the head can be basically flat.
When it was running it was so damn quick you couldn't see much anyway. Just heads of flashing and stuff.
